Antonia Ramis Miguel The Break of Rules
Antonia Ramis Miguel returns to Watergate Gallery continuing her approach to Constructivist art which combines the strength of structured line along with color and abstraction to create a dramatic visual effect that arranges the parts of a subject into a whole. Antonia Ramis Miguel was born in Spain and has been painting since childhood. She studied with Edgardo and Alceu Ribeiro, students of the renowned constructivist Joaquin Torres-Garcia. The influence of her native Spain, particularly the use of saturated color, is however still visible in her work.
"For this show of my most recent work I have combined a variety of pieces of different subjects and mediums using oil on canvas, and acrylics. These works show my interest in structured compositions where line is one of the most important elements. I create my paintings by breaking down shapes and not using formal rules of composition."
